Chao Adventure Game by Sega Reviewed by Beefy_B BeefyB_77@yahoo.com Size: 128 blocks on the VMU Save: Battery Released: 1999 Works with: Sega VMU (Download from Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast) Opening Snide Remarks: Its very low res, black and white, and on a screen about the size of my thumb, but its so darn addictive. Gameplay: Its simple. First you transfer your chao (pronounced chow, not cow) from Sonic Adventure into the VMU. After that its just a matter of turning the game on. Presto chango and you are on your way. The game itself is very easy to play. Basically your chao walks. If he falls you help him up, if he sleeps you wake him up. Some times you may run into a bully chaoin whick case you will have to fight using a roulette type system where you try to stop a moving cursor on the punch button. The "walk" lasts around 2.5 hours and is very simple. As you are walking your chao, you also have to ability to do several things like, play a mini game (memory, which yields fruit that raises your chao's attributes), name your chao, battle with a friend (by linking VMU's) and mateing chao with a friend. Graphics: The graphics are simple and rudimentary. With such a low res screen this game does all it can though. fish look like fish, trees look like tree etc. An interesting aspect though is how your chao's appearance changes as it evolves in the game. Sound: Simple beeps and blips, noting to get excited about, again this is a hardware limitation. Music: There is no music. Play Control: Being that the game is so simple it should come as no big surprise that the play control is dead on. no sluggishness here. Final Analysis: While the Premise of "walking" your artificial life form may seem boring and tedious. On the contrary the bond that you form with it is so addictivve that you will continually want to go on, and the simple game ends up being quite fun and addicting. Score Gameplay: **** Graphics: **** (relative to the systems limitations) Sound: ** Music: N/A Play Control: ***** Total: 15 stars Final Score: 70% Currently Known Codes: When you play on a holiday like Christmas or your birthday your chao gives you fruit which you can then feed to it.
