Cosmic Spacehead Game by Codemasters Reviewed by Insecta insecta@email.com Size: 2 Megabits Save: Password Released: 1993 Works with: Game Gear **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: A pretty quirky Game Gear game, a result of a failed Sonic hunt. I actually really liked it though, despite its total weirdness. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Description: Judging from the games name you would imagine the equivalent of a way out surfer, living on Mars. But the game is about a young looking boy, in a supermanish suit starring in his own point and click adventure to find a way back to his own planet! This proves immensely entertaining with some pretty quirky jokes inserted everywhere. It has a very strong cartoonish feel, especially in the platforming sub sections. This is a really interesting game, one of Codemasters finest moments from before Micro Machines. Liked: Solving a really odd puzzle. Hated: No way to kill enemies in platforming sections. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: At first glance the graphics look like they have come straight from a Jetsons cartoon. The more you look at them, the more it seems. They are exceptionally well drawn, backgrounds and all. And every screen has a different look, so who knows how long this took them? A wonderful effort from Codemasters graphics department. Liked: Cartoon look alike. Hated: Some bits look a bit unfinished. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: The music is fantastic, and I always get shivers down my spine when I hear the intro. They really do have that comedy space feel, and blend together so well. There are no pauses when the music changes so you really get sucked into the game. The sound effects are very scarce but remarkably good when heard. This game is a music roller coaster from start to finish. Liked: Music blending. Hated: Little SFX. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: For a handheld point and click, you wouldn't expect much in the way of controls. But using 1 to switch between Use, Pick Up, Talk, etc and 2 to move or perform action you can pick up the game straight away. Controls are about as good as Codemasters could have got them. The platforming sections have good, but basic level design. Liked: Perfect point and clicking. Hated: Platform levels a bit basic. **************************************************************************** Improve: Platforming sections. RIYL: Quirky humour, Point and Click games. **************************************************************************** Final Words: A very cool title, from a virtually unknown series. I loved the game then, and still have a soft spot for it! You really should own this if you want something different for your Game Gear. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: **** Sound/Music: **** Play Control/Game Design: **** Personal Opinion: **** Total: 84% Final Score: 80% **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None
