Galactic Pinball Game by Nintendo Reviewed by Adrock gbcam@hotmail.com Size: 16 megabit Save: Battery (For Scores) Released: 1995 **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: Pinball with a puck? It works. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: My dad... is a pinball master. He plays this game for hours. He's also good at crane games but that's beside the point. He has made this game FREEZE from getting high scores. In the billions. I suck at it. I still have a fun time playing it. It has four tables. There are also lots of bonus game thingies. Samus makes an appearance in a shooter game. Each table has it's own unique theme. ALIEN has a large alien head that appears when you activate it, and you have to defeat it by hitting it with your puck. Yes, a puck, not a ball. I'm not really sure why. I guess it goes with the whole 3D/Depth thing. Anyways. UFO has, well, a large UFO. Colony is frequently attacked by an asteroid storm. Once they come into the area, the asteroids fly onto the screen and you have to shoot them with your trigger, like you were above the table looking below. And finally, Cosmic is just your basic table, with a big rotating planet up in the corner. Is it fun? I guess... so. There are games that take advantage of the Virtual Boy very well. This one doesn't really take advantage of it that well, except for some stuff in the title sequence, the menus, the hi-scores screen has a starfield simulation. It's a pinball game on Virtual Boy. Liked: A fun pinball game. Nothing new. Hated: More tables, more cool effects to take advantage of the VB. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: The graphics are good, but think. A pinball game isn't going to be exactly a theatre of the eye. It's the same kind of thing you would see on Nintendo 64, if Nintendo made a pinall game for it. You know those little rails that the ball rolls down... in real pinball tables. This game has them too, and they pop out like a 3d image. They stick out in my mind. It's... space-looking. Liked: Good graphics. Hated: Nothing really, but maybe more to take advantage of VB. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Sound is cool. There's lots of voice samples. At the title screen, a voice says "Welcome to Space World, let's go." And in the bonus room, a voice says "Ladies and Gentlemen, in just a few seconds our show wil begin." And others. Maybe they don't make sense but they are nice sounding. And the music is pretty nice, it's semi-techno. It certainly sounds spacey. Liked: Voice samples Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: The left and right digital pad controls the left and right paddles. You can also use L and R. Simple control. There is not really, any objectives, just higher scores. Which is the original idea of "Replay Value". Liked: Solid Controls. Hated: It's only pinball, and the only thing you've got to do is get higher scores. **************************************************************************** Improve: More tables. More use of the VB. A 2 player mode? Even just an alternating. Bah, why am I trying to improve this game, it's not like they will update it anyways ;-) RIYL: Umm... Pinball **************************************************************************** Final Words: Your basic pinball game. If you like pinball, get this. If you can only get a few games for your Virtual Boy, like if you pick one up used, get some other ones, like Mario Tennis, Golf or Wario Land VB. Nothing you haven't seen here. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: *** Graphics: **** Sound/Music: ***** Play Control/Game Design: **** Personal Opinion: *** Total: 19 Final Score: %76 **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: If you get a billion points, a star will appear by your name on the Hi-Scores. Good luck...
