Micro Machines 2: Turbo Tournament Game by Codemasters Reviewed by Insecta insecta@email.com Size: 4 megabits Save: None Released: 1995 Works with: Game Gear **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: I had looked for the prequel to this game for ages, but when I found the sequel to the game I was more than happy. When I played it I was still more than happy, and it still ranks No. 3 in my favorite Game Gear game list! **************************************************************************** Gameplay Description: Yes, it's Micro Machines racing and it's in the palm of your hand! The sequel to the first game is way better then the prequel and is streets ahead of the Gameboy versions. Using all the Genesis options, except for Time Trial it takes the same game play and puts it on the Game Gear. The game is a buzz to play, with the trademark fast, fun and furious Micro Machines action onboard. You can even play two player on one Game Gear! Liked: Playing Micro Machines in your hands. Hated: Where did Time Trial go? **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: The Micro Machines series have never had very good graphics, and the same holds true for this game. A great conversion of the Genesis graphics though. The cars look like their toy box side counterparts, as do the trackside objects. You can't fail to fall in love with the idea of racing round a house, in mini vehicles! Liked: Realistic looking Micro Machines. Hated: Bit too simple. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: The music in Micro Machines 2 is a standard fare, with no in game music and only a few option tunes. The sound effects are just what you would imagine those little plastic toys to sound like if they were real, with squealing brakes, humming engines and spring like bounce noises! Nice sound, shame about the lack of in game music. Liked: Engine noise. Hated: Lack of music. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: The controls are hard to get used to, with turning and braking a little different from a conventional racer. But learning to play Micro Machines is like learning to ride a bike, so if you can play another Micro Machines game (even 3D ones) you can play this with ease. Level design is over imaginative, with a massive variation of track layouts, cars and scenery! Really good. Liked: Ace level design. Hated: Hard to get used to 2 Player mode. **************************************************************************** Improve: Graphics. In-Game music. RIYL: Micro Machines, or a fun different game. **************************************************************************** Final Words: A very cool title, from a virtually unknown series. I loved the game then, and still have a soft spot for it! You really should own this if you want something different for your Game Gear. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: **** Graphics: *** Sound/Music: *** Play Control/Game Design: **** Personal Opinion: **** Total: 72% Final Score: 76% **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None
