Red Alarm Game by: Nintendo Reviewed by: Robb Rob__dale@hotmail.com (2 underscores) Size: 16 megabits (2 megabytes) Save: none Released: 1995 Works with: Virtual Boy only **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: Unfortunately, the Virtual Boy wasn't a huge hit back in '95. But just because it failed doesn't mean it can't have some good games. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: Red Alarm is a third person flying shooter(third person is the default, there are other choices). The whole game is very similar to the starfox games. You fly an aircraft through a (surprisingly)large 3d world, shooting enemy aircraft and dangerous creatures. At the end of each level, you are transferred into a large room with the boss in it. Bosses are excellent and provide the perfect amount of challenge for any gamer. Liked: Everything Hated: Nothing **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: Red Alarm has one major downfall: everything is made entirely out of sticks. Nothing is shaded or textured. This problem doesn't affect gameplay, but it does make the game a lot less pleasing to the eye. For a game made of sticks, the sticks are used pretty well. Enemies are quite well designed and look really good(for a bunch of sticks). Liked: Good enemy design, use of sticks Hated: sticks **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: I'm not usually a big fan of video game music and sound effects, but I really enjoyed the audio on Red Alarm. The music is very fitting and seems perfect for the game. Sound effects aren't much, but they aren't bad(which is good). Liked: Everything Hated: Nothing **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: No problems here. Buttons are easy to use and respond well. Levels have great design and are fun and exciting. Liked: Everything Hated: Nothing **************************************************************************** Improve: Add texture and shading RIYL: Starfox, Starfox 64 **************************************************************************** Final Words: Red Alarm is a great game, but could have used a little shading. If you've got a Virtual Boy, go to a garage sale with a couple of dimes and get it. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: *** Sound/Music: ***** Play Control/Game Design: ***** Personal Opinion: **** Total: 22 Final Score: 88% **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: none
